Penang Green Idol is a competition designed to encourage students or teenagers to share their ideas and thoughts about environmental issues and to improve their knowledge and awareness. For the past two consecutive years, we have had this competition as an initiative to encourage the young generation to conserve the environment in line with Penang State’s mission, “To work towards a Cleaner, Greener, Healthier and Safer Penang.”
For the past four consecutive years, we have had Sunshine Garden giving away over 2000 mini potted plants to date to participants for free. The objective is to encourage people to cultivate green fingers and spruce up their home or office with a touch of green. Plants can also help enhance the air quality of interior space.
Since 2015, we have Jasper Promenade organising little cookouts during the Carnival. It is fun endeavours for families where a cooking instructor will teach them how to cook or rather make simple food out of fresh ingredients.
The MGBC Eco Power Run is a fun-packed 5 KM run organised by the Malaysian Green Building Confederation to encourage the public to stay green, fit and healthy. It is a part of the Carnival, and everyone is invited to join in for a good cause in ensuring a green future for Penang Citizens.
Last year, we brought in a new art competition by the Green Cap Venture. It’s a contest for kids to get creative with food. Kids get to create beautiful masterpieces using foods as the motif. The competition aims to instil an appreciation for food and to encourage creative thinking. And perhaps your kids will bring the skill back and create their food stamped crafts like aprons, tote bags or placemats.
An eye-opening drama, concerning global warming, was conducted by the students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Muda during the Carnival. It was a special show done with the purpose of educating the public on the importance of looking after our environment. The intrinsic takeaway value is that actions against climate change can be fun and are likely to inculcate creativity in us.
“Penang Green Carnival is a good platform for exhibit[s] and awareness for green technology.”
“Penang Green Carnival in 2016 showcases a range of enterprises that recycle ranges of products from the wastes we produce. It is a carnival where you allow yourself to be indulged with what the state has done to make Penang a greener state.”
The Penang International Green Carnival is back for another weekend of exciting games, performance, and fun learning.
It is an annual event by the Penang Green Council. Every year, the event will focus on a particular theme with the aim to create public awareness on the topic through enlightening and fun activities.
